Matthew Bourne: Sleeping Beauty

Description

The story that Matthew Bourne tells in his "Sleeping Beauty" begins in 1890, the same year when the world saw the very first premiere of this ballet to the music of Tchaikovsky - it begins with the christening of Princess Aurora. It was a period in European history when fairies, vampires and mysterious decadence stirred minds and gave food to fantasies in the Gothic style. Aurora grows up and we travel with her to the beautiful and fleeting Edwardian era, the mythical golden age of long summer tea parties, lawn croquet and new dance crazes. Years later, as it should be according to Charles Perrault's fairy tale, after a hundred years, Aurora will wake up in our modern world, in a world even more mysterious and amazing than any magical fairy tale. "Sleeping Beauty" by Matthew Bourne is a gothic love story that won the hearts of dance lovers of all ages and completed the trilogy of Tchaikovsky ballets choreographed by Matthew Bourne.
